Over the past few months, Craig and I have been able to take several hikes. We only get in usually 1 a month, but we make it quite the adventure for us. Mostly because it might be a new place or a new trail/direction in a familiar area. We enjoy the walk, the flowers, the overlooks and scenery but the very best part of all of it is: just the together time; talking, laughing, dreaming, being.
These pics are taken from 4 different hikes - Crystal Cove Trail, Santa Margarita Trail, Batiquitos Lagoon, and Mission Trails Regional Park.
Crystal Cove Trail
Crystal Cove is north of Fallbrook off the 5, north of Newport Beach. Crystal Cove is a state park and encompasses the beach, ocean and mountains. This hike was
one of the first long ones Craig took me on, so it may be one of my favorites. The cool thing about Crystal Cove is there are numerous paths to take and you can start at the bottom or the top. This past February we took this hike and started at the top so we could embrace the feel of climbing up after an easy down. The trail had a couple of challenges for me, but I managed. First there was quite a steep slope we had to go up - Craig amazing ran up - I am the little turtle that continues to plod along slowly but doing it. The second challenge was we were on our way up and received a phone call from Anthony and Jana; and dealing with walking hard and fast and talking and thinking was not working for me plus an unclear connection. I turned the phone over to Craig to enjoy the conversation for us. Here are some shots from that hike, it was great.

Santa Margarita Trail
This was the first short trail Craig took me on. It is an amazing trail right here in Fallbrook. I love the
Santa Margarita Trail! It is pretty anytime of the year. I love seeing the different flowers and changing of the seasons here. I love the river and ducks that make their home there. It is a beautiful trail that is very easy to follow but has had a few wash outs from spring rains so there are a couple of spots with tricky navigations. Also poison oak is prolific here so stay on the trail and avail yourself to know what it looks like.

Batiquitos Lagoon
Batiquitos Lagoon is in LaCosta, southwest of Fallbrook. We decided to try this hike out because we wanted a new place and I was reading about you could start a hike here and than continue on through "trails" in La Costa. We really enjoyed hiking around the lagoon, it was pretty and we were seeing some very different landscapes and plants. But the "trails" through La Costa were sidewalks, a utility path, golf course and some sketchy places behind a nursery in a canyon. We decided the City of La Costa needed to update its trail map. I would definitely recommend walking the Lagoon but not the urban "trails," at least not on your own. It did give us a good day together walking for about 4 hours though.
