Photo Journal Week #20

May 31, 2015 - 34 years ago yesterday I married my sweetheart

My favorite thing to do is to be with him.

Another favorite thing for me to do is to be in the temple. The temple is a place for me to remember how much my Heavenly Father loves me and how beautiful this world is.  Yesterday I spent the morning in the temple but also took a few minutes to photograph its bits and pieces outside.  The day was quite overcast but still peaceful and joyful.

Photo Journal Week #19

May 25, 2015 - Memorial Day

A Visit to Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery

The last time I remember visiting Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Anthony was seven and Aimee was two.  We walk among the grave markers and reflected on the meaning of Memorial Day.

I wanted that experience again today. Craig and I picked a bouquet of red, white, and blue flowers and distributed them among several gravesides. I choose random markers who I felt impressed to leave the flowers among.

We did our best to wander sufficiently among the 101,079 markers reflecting on the service given for our freedoms, the sacrifices made.  We read grave markers, cried (and when I say cried I mean me), laid a flower or two, and paused for thanks.

A few of the 101, 079 gravesites within the 77 acres of Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

Monuments to those fallen.  The Mormon Battalion Memorial was erected in 1998.

Chester H Smith from the Idaho Infantry of the Spanish American War

Frederick L Cheenkloth served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam Wars

I don't know if Harry Dow Mitchell died in battle but he was only 20 years old

Every gravesite had a flag flying

I loved the roses that were laid on an entire row of markers from another paying respect

Photo Journal #18

May 15, 2015 or 5/15/15  (isn't that a fun way to look at the date?)

In between rain showers.

We have been blessed with rain.  Besides that I love rain: watching it come down, listening to the drops and splatters, smelling it; I love the look of raindrops and puddles and the feel of the air after it rains.

I wandered outside this morning in between the storms and found a little bit of water from heaven to share with you.

What is your favorite part of a rain shower?

Historical and Cultural Kauai

Kauai's history and culture is an integral part of the island.  Many areas are sacred and care is taken for awareness and respect to be shown.  As told to us, although Kauai is the oldest among the islands, the history given only dated back into the 1700's.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints quaint chapel in Kapa'a.  There are 4 LDS church buildings on the island of Kauai.

Fern Grotto, only reachable by boat.  We took a 3 man kayak up the Wailua River to view it.

Allerton Botanical Gardens, grounds purchased in 1930's. Beautiful botanical gardens only assessable by tour.  Site of several movies, like Pirates of the Caribbean and Jurassic Park.

Russian Fort Elisabeth held 1817 and abandoned in 1854.
