Our Coastline Journey From Bagheria to Porticello

The serendipity of following a map not knowing beforehand what will be placed before you.

Between Bagheria and Porticello there are a few little towns with their own uniqueness that make them beautiful.

Aspra

The colorful boats trying to look as beautiful as the rainbow

A joyful walk in the rain

He's got the whole world in his hands

Children are the joy of life

Charming village of Aspra

Arco Azzurro - a natural bridge over a sea inlet

Bridge over troubled waters

Pondering

Nothing stops the smiles

Capo Zafferano in the future

Punta Sant'Elia

That sea, those clouds

He is the the best companion

The wise man built his house upon a rock

All things denote there is a God

Porticello

If you chance to meet a frown, do not let it stay, quickly turn it upside down and smile that frown away

"Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the Lord, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks." Jeremiah 16:16

See the lighthouse of Capo Zafferano

Capo Zafferano Lighthouse

If you just take a look at google maps you can find places around you to explore.

Anziano Garrett pulled up the Sicily coastline map near Bagheria and discovered several little villages that had sights to offer. One of those places was the Capo Zafferano Lighthouse built in 1884 and once used as navy barracks. It is deserted now and a short walk along a narrow road off of SP23.

Can you see the lighthouse?
We took along a couple of willing cohorts, even though we and they didn't know what to expect.

With Sorella Ricks and Sorella CozBeccera

Sicily's coastline is varying and beautiful

These jagged rock formations in the hills

Plant life

There was a sanctuary to along the path for a place to ponder if wanted.

Look to the heavens

The path was beautiful and we were the only ones there. Although we did pass a few homes that are looking out to the sea.

Our first view of the lighthouse

The light was still shining

Wildflowers among the deserted bricks

Capo Zafferano Lighthouse
We saw there was a grotto below the lighthouse and found a path that took us part of the way there. After that there was some rocky ground to cover but it was worthy it.  I highly recommend sturdy shoes and maybe even gloves because the rocks are very rough.

Anziano Garrett always up for exploring

Joy in the beauty of the earth

Splash

Plant life grows in even the smallest crevices

That blue water

Our grotto had its own archway

What a delightful discovery
