September GANS Happenings

With Anziano Garrett at the reins there is never a dull moment at Serata Familiare - known as Family Home Evening to English Speakers.  He hopes to make lessons interactive and fun along with positive experiences. Plus there is a lot of singing.  We even have a motto "if you sing, they will come." and it works!

Here are pictures from some of the most recent experiences from balloon art positive phrases to origami follow the prophet to cave exploring and birthday parties.

Right one good word about the person and pass it on

Gentile, smart, dolce,

Most of you might have done an activity where you write your name at the top of a sheet of paper and then pass it to the person next to you. Upon this paper they write something they like about you or a good characteristic you possess, then it is passed to the next person and so on. Not with Anziano Garrett around: just substitute a balloon for a piece of paper.

Listening to the instructions

Fold here and then fold there

Flying their origami swans

Following the instructions to make an origami swan can be a little tough; fold here, fold 2 times here, unfold and refold this way, and so on. But if you listen and try and sometimes with a little help you are able to create a beautiful origami swan. It can be the same with listening and following the prophet's words. You might have to hear them once or twice or even three times or more, perhaps you mess up, but trying and listening again sometimes with another's help you will create a beautiful you.

Our personal guide
Be sure to explore where you are. We might always be looking on the other side of the world for something better but right in your own backyard there is amazing beauty. One found here in Palermo was Grotto Mazzamuto, where we went on a short hike to reach the cave. A little exploring and a lot of singing happened here. The best part was the fun together, watching out for each other, supporting each other, and singing beauty songs of praise to our Heavenly Father.

Ending with amazing granita at Chantilly's in Bagheria

A wonderful, courageous group
Anziano Garrett isn't one to celebrate himself, let alone his birthday, but if a festa brings together lots of people for the first Institute class  - then let's have a party. Lots of food and cake, lots of fun and laughter, and lots of wonderful loving people.

Best mission ever!
