Monte Capo Gallo

May 7, 2017

What a breathtaking exhilarating experience!  Breathtaking from breathing hard as we climbed a steep mountain side and breathtaking from the beauty allong the path and at the top.

We love being able to spend time with our Young Adults.  We love the joy they have together and the joy they bring into our lives.

Saturday we climbed Monte Capo Gallo with 7 fun loving, strong, happy young men, well some of us were older but all of us young in spirit.  Monte Capo Gallo is near Mondello in the providence of Palermo just a few miles from us.

Salvo and Marco drove to the trailhead with us

Luca, Marco, Domenico, Dennis with Carle, me, John, Salvo, and Craig

Our starting view overlooking Palermo

Once everyone had arrived we started off.  Our goal the top of the mountain and a former lighthouse.

Most of those homes on the hillside are vacant

First resting point and picture taking

He is carrying our water, yay!

Oh a hiking we will go

Salvo, Craig, Luka, John, Marco, Dennis with Carli, and Domenico

Dennis made us a walking stick

We can see our goal that lighthouse is where it is at

We or I at least enjoyed the wildflowers and varied plants along the way from cacti to pine trees.

Upon reaching the top we sighted the former lighthouse.  A gentleman has taken over the lighthouse as his own decorating it as his worship to God.

Mosaic rocks marking our path

Welcoming view

All the mosaic was done by one man

Upclose view

Angels with their trumpets sounding

The man who did all the work

Star of David in his workshop

Inside that tower it is covered with mosaic

Although we were not able to enter his home, we did enjoy the area around us.

Craig, Marco, and Dennis with Carli

Sometimes group selfies work

Sometimes group selfies don't

Dennis wishes he could fly

Looking down to the sea

Isn' that view behind us amazing?!

The trail down was almost as difficult with the slick rocks and pebbles but we made it.  We might be tired, hot, and dirty but we were happy still.

Marco, Salvo, and Dennis with Carli

Happy to have completed the trail

We are true Palermotonos when we stuff the car

My friend Salvo made this cool video about our hike if you want to check it out.  Monte Capo Gallo
